Joshua Daniels is a historian and filmmaker from Rotherham, who has done work for Wentworth Woodhouse, Elsecar Heritage Centre, and the Yorkshire Society. He has a Master’s degree to distinction level from Royal Holloway, University of London. At his core is the belief that the loss of industry does not mean the loss of purpose for a community. His research focuses on the oral history of post-industrial areas, whilst looking at new futures for them too, such as through nature or green energy.

Current project: The Story of Barnsley Main

This project is a two-part project aimed at capturing the story of Barnsley Main (in South Yorkshire) through a documentary and oral history archive, looking at new historical research of the site, the interviews with the miners, and the group that looks after it. It also features a documentary about the nearby Dearne Valley Country Park, looking at its industrial history and its new purpose (and future) as a recreational area and place of nature. This project aims to preserve the industrial heritage of Barnsley, whilst also showing that there is a new future for the town.
