Inès Delpuech is a doctoral student in history at Paris 8 University and the Institute for Contemporary History under the supervision of Malika Rahal, historian of Algeria. She also holds degrees in Arabic language, geography, and geosciences.
Her thesis project focuses on postcolonial developments in the mining sector in the Maghreb, specifically on the social experiences of mining work in Tunisia. By studying the human lives underground, her research aims to contribute to a shift in the focus of knowledge about mines beyond the European and North American worlds. Using a methodology that combines oral history and written archives (mining institution archives and private archives), she is also interested in systems of representation of the mining environment and the ways in which populations in mining regions perceive the environmental damage caused by this colonial industry from a diachronic perspective.
