Based at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, the Scottish Oral History Centre (SOHC) operates as an interdisciplinary research centre for oral history and as a knowledge exchange hub between academic and community oral history. The SOHC is involved in a wide range of teaching, research and outreach activities designed primarily to encourage the use of oral history best practices methodology in Scotland. Professor Arthur McIvor has been Director of the Centre since 2005, and since then, the SOHC has collected an extensive archive of recorded interviews in collaboration with other staff and students in History at Strathclyde. In addition to developing a strong presence in Scotland, the SOHC also has growing international links. They are currently involved in a transatlantic collaborative relationship with the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS), where a number of SOHC staff are affiliated. The SOHC and COHDS have jointly organised a major international conference on deindustrialisation held in Montreal in May 2014, and jointly organize an International Oral History Summer Institute (Montreal June 2016; SOHC June 2018).
