Xavier Vigna is a professor of contemporary history at the University of Paris-Nanterre and a member of the IDHES laboratory since 2018, after having taught at the University of Burgundy. His thesis work explored workers’ strikes in France in the wake of May-June 1968 (L’insubordination ouvrière dans les années 68. Essai d’histoire politique des usines, Rennes, PUR, 2007). Following this, he published a survey of 1968 (Histoire des ouvriers en France au XXe siècle, Paris, Perrin, 2012), before broadening his research into workers’ writings and those devoted to them (L’espoir et l’effroi. Luttes d’écritures et luttes de classes en France au XXe siècle, Paris, La Découverte, 2016). In this context, he engaged in a collective research project on workers’ surveys in contemporary Europe (Eric Geerkens, et alii [ed.], Les enquêtes ouvrières dans l’Europe contemporaine. Entre pratiques scientifiques et passions politiques, Paris, La Découverte, 2019). Concurrently, he recently co-edited with Marion Fontaine a special journal issue: “La désindustrialisation, une histoire en cours”, 20&21. Revue d’histoire, n°144, October-December 2019.
