Summary of Project
The Mill is a multimedia investigation led by artist Russell Gendron into sawmill culture and closures in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh territory (Squamish BC). Through a combination of sound, photography and installation, Gendron will use first person accounts, including his own experiences as a boy working in sawmills, to explore the role deindustrialization has played in his own family, in the lives of locals, and how these experiences might inform our understandings of working people’s place in the world moving forward.
